The Broadcom 05-50111-01 is a 9600-24i tri-mode storage adapter, a low-profile PCIe host bus adapter for server platforms. It presents a PCIe 4.0 x8 system interface and supports SAS and SATA devices. A host bus adapter passes drives through to the operating system without hardware RAID abstraction, so host software owns volume management. The 05-50111-01 is a server-class device specified from a 0°C minimum operating temperature and shipped in bulk packaging, one adapter per pack.
Tri-mode host bus adapters connect large numbers of drives to a server when the storage software layer wants raw device access rather than hardware RAID.
