The FTDI FT232RQ-REEL is a single-channel USB to serial UART bridge with an on-chip oscillator and EEPROM, so no external crystal or configuration memory is needed. It runs at USB full speed with data rates to 12Mbps from a 5V supply, with logic rails supported down to 1.8V. The FT232RQ-REEL comes in a 32-pin QFN with exposed pad measuring 5mm x 5mm x 900µm, supplied on tape and reel in 6000-piece reels.

USB to UART bridges give a device a virtual serial port over USB, which is how most instruments, development boards and industrial equipment expose a console or configuration channel to a modern host with no legacy serial connector. Integrating the oscillator and EEPROM cuts the bill of materials to essentially the chip plus decoupling, and the EEPROM lets a manufacturer program a custom vendor identifier, product identifier and serial number. Typical uses include point of sale hardware, test and measurement gear, industrial controllers and consumer accessories.
