The FTDI FT232RL-REEL is a single-channel USB-to-UART (RS-232-level) bridge controller supporting data rates up to 12Mbps, in a 28-pin SSOP package. It operates over a wide 1.8V to 5.25V range and integrates the USB protocol handling on-chip. The device is rated for -40°C to 85°C.
This popular USB-to-serial bridge adds a virtual COM port to any product over USB, widely used in development boards, programming/debug adapters, industrial equipment, and point-of-sale devices. It lets legacy UART/RS-232 peripherals connect to modern USB hosts without a dedicated microcontroller.
