The SPV1040TTR from STMicroelectronics is a high-efficiency solar battery charger with embedded maximum power point tracking, supplied in an 8-pin TSSOP. MPPT continuously adjusts the operating point presented to a photovoltaic source so that it delivers the most power available under the present light and temperature, rather than being pulled off its optimum by the load. The device accepts an input from as low as 300 mV up to 5.5 V and produces a regulated output from 2 V to 5.2 V at up to 1.65 A. It operates from -40C to +125C and is supplied lead-free, RoHS compliant, on tape and reel.

An input floor of 300 mV means the SPV1040TTR can start and keep working from a single small photovoltaic cell or a partially shaded panel, which is why it appears in solar-powered and energy-harvesting products: outdoor wireless sensor nodes, environmental and agricultural monitors, solar chargers for single-cell lithium and NiMH batteries, garden and street lighting, and off-grid IoT gateways.
