The M41T00M6F is an STMicroelectronics real time clock from the M41T00 series, accessed over a two-wire I2C serial bus at 100k Hz and supplied in an 8-pin SOIC measuring 5mm x 4mm x 1.5mm. It keeps time in HH:MM:SS format and date in YY-MM-DD-dd form including the day of week, holds 8 bytes of nonvolatile register memory, provides one output, and operates from 2V to 5.5V across a -40C to 85C range. A real time clock keeps the date and time advancing while the host processor is powered down or reset, so the system does not have to re-acquire time at every boot.
