The ISL80103IRAJZ from Intersil Corporation is a positive adjustable low-dropout Linear Regulator delivering up to 3A of output current. Its output adjusts from 800mV to 5V, it accepts an input from 2.2V to 6V, and its dropout voltage is 120mV. The ISL80103IRAJZ offers 62dB of power supply rejection, is supplied in a 10-pin DFN package with an exposed pad, and operates from -40°C to 125°C.
A 3A low-dropout regulator can post-regulate the output of a switching converter, stripping the switching ripple to produce a rail clean enough for sensitive analog and RF circuitry. The 120mV dropout of the ISL80103IRAJZ keeps the input-to-output difference small, which limits the power it has to dissipate at high current. It is used to generate core, memory, and I/O rails for FPGAs, DSPs, and processors, and to supply data converters, PLLs, and transceivers that reject supply noise poorly.
