The ROHM SML-E12U8WT86 is a single-color red chip LED with a 620 nm dominant wavelength, in a 2-pin 0603 (1608 metric) surface-mount package measuring 1.6 mm x 0.8 mm with a 0.46 mm height. It produces 63 mcd of luminous intensity at a 20 mA test current with a 2.2 V forward voltage, through a diffused clear rectangular lens with a wide 140-degree viewing angle. The SML-E12U8WT86 is lead free, RoHS compliant and in active production, supplied on tape and reel.

0603 chip LEDs are the standard indicator element on printed circuit boards: power and status lights, fault and activity indicators on networking and computing hardware, backlighting for small legends and keypads, and panel indication on appliances and industrial controls. The wide 140-degree viewing angle and diffused lens favor indication that must be visible off-axis rather than focused illumination, and the 20 mA drive point works directly from a GPIO with a series resistor.
