The Broadcom HCNR201-500E is a single-channel high-linearity analog optocoupler with a photovoltaic DC output, supplied in an 8-pin surface-mount package on tape and reel. It provides 5 kV of isolation voltage, operates the LED input at 10 mA to 20 mA (25 mA maximum) with a 1.6 V forward voltage, and is specified with a 0.72% current transfer ratio and a 15 V output rating. The HCNR201-500E dissipates up to 60 mW, withstands 2.5 V reverse voltage on the input, and is rated -40°C to 85°C with a 125°C maximum junction temperature.
Linear optocouplers transmit an analog level across an isolation barrier, which digital optocouplers cannot do without modulation, so they are used wherever a measurement must cross from a high-voltage or floating domain to grounded control electronics. The standard application is isolated feedback in a switch-mode power supply, where the output voltage has to be sensed on the secondary side and reported to a primary-side controller. Others include isolated current and voltage sensing in motor drives and inverters, medical patient-connected measurement, industrial 4-20 mA loop interfaces, and battery and solar monitoring. Buyers are power supply, industrial drive, medical device, and energy equipment OEMs and their contract manufacturers, where the 5 kV rating supports the safety-isolation requirements those systems must certify to.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
