The Broadcom HCPL-0631-500E is a dual-channel high-speed digital optocoupler rated for 3, 750 Vrms isolation and data rates up to 10 Mbaud, packaged in an 8-pin SOIC. Each of its two channels operates from a 4.5 V to 5.5 V supply with a 15 mA input forward current and 1.8 V forward voltage, and provides up to 50 mA of output current at up to 7 V. The HCPL-0631-500E has a 75 ns propagation delay, is lead-free and RoHS compliant, and is rated for -40°C to 85°C.
Digital optocouplers pass logic signals across a galvanic barrier so that a controller and a high-voltage or remotely grounded circuit can communicate without a shared ground return. At 10 Mbaud with 75 ns propagation delay, this class of part is fast enough for isolated serial buses, gate-drive command paths, encoder feedback, and line-side communication interfaces. The 3, 750 Vrms rating covers the isolation levels commonly required in industrial power supplies, motor drives, inverters, and instrumentation. It is bought by industrial and power-electronics design teams, and remains a long-lived, widely second-sourced part for maintenance and legacy builds.
