The PCA9306DCUR is a Texas Instruments 2-bit bidirectional voltage-level translator built specifically for I2C and SMBus lines, supplied in an 8-pin VSSOP package. It translates two open-drain signals between different bus voltages with no direction control needed, supporting 400 k Hz Fast-mode I2C operation. TI specifies the PCA9306DCUR with a 1.4 ns propagation delay, 1.2 ns turn-on delay and 64 mA output current, across a supply range up to 5.5 V. The package measures 2.3 mm x 2.0 mm x 900 um with gold contact plating, is lead free, halogen free and RoHS compliant, carries MSL 1 handling, and is rated -40 C to +85 C.

An I2C bus can only run at one pull-up voltage per segment, so when a 1.8 V processor must reach a 3.3 V or 5 V EEPROM, sensor, PMIC or display controller, a translator is required to keep both sides within valid logic levels. The PCA9306DCUR handles exactly the two-signal SCL and SDA case, passing open-drain levels in either direction while isolating the two bus segments' pull-ups. It is also widely used on DDR SPD and SMBus management paths, hot-swap card edges, and camera and sensor module interfaces. Typical buyers are embedded, computing, networking and consumer OEM designers integrating peripherals that operate at different rail voltages from the host.
