The Texas Instruments PCM1803ADBR is a dual-channel 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter with a 96 kilosamples per second sampling rate, supplied in a 20-pin SSOP package. It carries two A/D converters and two analog inputs, uses bipolar input polarity, and offers a 103dB signal-to-noise ratio with an I2S or serial digital output. The PCM1803ADBR runs from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply at 5V nominal, drawing 11.7mA, with 77mW typical power consumption against an 80mW maximum. It is specified from -40°C to 85°C, is RoHS compliant and lead free, and ships in tape and reel.
Delta-sigma audio converters oversample a bipolar analog input and decimate it to a serial PCM stream, which is why a 24-bit stereo part with an I2S output is the standard front end for digital audio capture. A 96 kilosamples per second, 103dB converter of this class is used in mixing consoles and audio interfaces, broadcast and conferencing equipment, musical instruments and effects processors, and networked audio endpoints. The same converter class also serves precision vibration and acoustic measurement, where wide dynamic range matters more than absolute DC accuracy. Buyers are typically audio and instrumentation hardware designers and contract manufacturers building professional audio products.
