The Texas Instruments TCA6416ARTWR is a 16-bit I2C/SMBus GPIO (I/O) expander in a 24-pin QFN package. As part-number TCA6416ARTWR, it supports bus speeds up to 400k Hz from a 1.65V to 5.5V supply across a -40degC to 85degC range. TI offers it to add general-purpose I/O over a two-wire bus.
The TCA6416ARTWR is used to expand the number of GPIO lines available to a processor over a single I2C/SMBus connection, driving LEDs, reading switches, and controlling peripherals.
