The Texas Instruments TCA9617ADGKR is a 2-bit level-translating I2C and SMBus buffer and repeater in an 8-pin VSSOP package. It supports data rates up to 1Mbps with a listed supply range of 0.8V to 5.5V, drawing 5.7mA operating current with a 140ns propagation delay. The TCA9617ADGKR is rated -40C to 85C, is lead-free and RoHS compliant, and ships on tape and reel.
An I2C buffer and repeater isolates bus capacitance so a single I2C master can drive more devices, longer traces or a backplane without violating the bus rise-time budget. The level-translating function lets a low-voltage controller share a bus with higher-voltage peripherals without discrete FET translators. Typical uses are server and telecom backplane management buses, multi-board industrial systems, and any design where added I2C nodes have pushed the bus past its capacitance limit.
