The Texas Instruments TCA9535RTWR is a 16-bit I2C and SMBus I/O expander in a 4mm by 4mm QFN package. An I/O expander adds general-purpose input and output pins to a system over a two-wire serial bus, letting a host controller read and drive port pins without spending its own GPIO. The TCA9535RTWR supports bus speeds up to 400 kilohertz and operates across -40°C to 85°C. It is lead-free, RoHS compliant, free of REACH SVHC substances and shipped on tape and reel.
I/O expanders are used wherever a microcontroller or SoC runs out of pins: driving status LEDs and relays, reading front-panel buttons and configuration switches, controlling resets and enables on peripheral boards, and adding board-management GPIO in servers and networking equipment. Because each device is addressed over the shared serial bus, several expanders can sit on one bus segment. Hardware designers often reach for this part late in a design when pin count becomes the binding constraint.
Fusion’s in-house quality hubs and Prosemi testing facility are fully certified to meet critical industry standards for electronic component inspection and testing.
